Telemark bindings are better and more
suited to todays plastic boots than ever before. The elements
of telemark bindings are still simplicity, strength, weight and
the free heel.
Thankfully the days of a multitude of telemark bindings promising
the world are over and we are left with a small selection of
bindings that satisfy.
The first decision that you must make
is if you are interested in release bindings. Consider release
bindings for two reasons: crashes, or avalanche safety.
Release Bindings
The new 7tm
is an integrated binding and release system. If you are inclined
to crank the release as tight as possible then forget about getting
it because the release will not work reliably enough anyway.
Otherwise if you are concerned with lower leg injuries or removing
your skis in the case of a large avalanche then these bindings
do their job well. The release bindings add about 10mm of lift.
Non-Release Bindings
If you want riser plates and ski big
boots then we recommend the G3
Targa/T9/Roxy because it comes complete with risers,
and a very strong cable/plate ( 4 screws to ski ) combination.
Accessories
Heel
lifts assist greatly in breaking trail by helping to
flick the tip of the ski to the surface as well as by lessening
the strain on the achilles tendon on steep uptracks. If you are
considering venturing into the backcountry then get these now
because you will love them later. Do not forget safety retention
straps for ski hill skiing!
