There
are so many combinations of gloves and materials to suit the
differences in peoples requirements as well as geographical
differences. Gloves that work well for ski touring are an interesting
breed and the only piece of advice most experienced guides will
give you is Bring Two!
There are gloves for spring days, uptracks,
fiddling with gear and they are thinner with more dexterity.
Ideally these are wrist high, offer great breathability, non
absorbent and good water repellency. Experienced backcountry
skiers often find that these work for everything but the coldest
conditions.
The staple backcountry powder glove
has a high gauntlet with one hand cinching. This keeps the powder
where it belongs not in your gloves. The liner must be removable
because they will at some point get wet or damp and certainly
smelly so dry and clean them with ease. If you can keep these
gloves on all day then you are winning half the battle - they
will stay warm and dry. In order to do this they must be sufficiently
dexterous to deal with skins. These gloves are protecting your
hands in a harsh environment get the best waterproof, durable
and supple gloves you can find. We stock the ones in this catalog
because they have been on our hands for the last couple of years.
The coldest conditions may require a spare pair of warm gloves
or mittens with limited dexterity but tons of warmth. These are
crucial when everything else has failed and your hands simply
are on the downward spiral getting colder and colder. Get your
hands into these units and assist by placing your hands under
your armpits or otherwise energetically moving them around to
get the blood recirculating. Then you can ski again. Remember
thats what you are here for...
Our selection of outerwear is specifically
selected to be designed for performance touring rather than regular
alpine ski jackets. Look for more in the future. |
