Ascension
skins are made in the U.S.
by Black Diamond and are the industry standard which others try
to match. Featuring a deeper plush and stronger backing materials
they are incredibly durable and tend to fold easily.
Climbing Skin Glue is designed to stick
your skin to your ski and to itself, and stay attached to skin
so as to be re-useable.
The fat ski revolution has also fueled
a fat skin drought. You need a skin that covers within 2mm of
the edges on both sides to at least 30cm from the tip and 20cm
from the tail. The main area of grip for a skin on a ski is directly
below the foot and spreading forward and backward. The more pressure
applied the better the grip so make sure a complete weight transfer
is achieved every step especially as it gets steeper. There is
no need to have the skin fit the tip edge to edge as there is
no added grip attained.
Skins for fat
or shaped skis are accompanied by a cutting tool which you should
use to ensure that the skis metal edges are exposed. This can
be done by lining one edge of the skin along the metal edge and
cutting the excess skin. Then place the cut edge about 2mm inside
the metal edge and cut the other side for a symmetrical skin.
Replace the skin on the ski and it should fit perfectly within
the metal edges. Leaving the metal edges exposed can be crucial
in icy areas but less important in soft snow conditions. Skins
purchased with skis can be fitted to your skis by our technician's
- let us know if you would prefer this service.
